Five Campus Stations Advance to Compete for the “College Radio Woodie”

The Sixth Annual Awards Show Will Air On mtvU, MTV, MTV2, and Palladia on
Friday, December 4 at 10pm ET

After nearly 3 million votes by students around the country, KCOU 88.1, University of Missouri; WPTS 92.1, University of Pittsburgh; Coyote Radio, California State University: San Bernardo; WCRD 91.3, Ball State University and KUPS, University of Puget Sound have moved forward as the final five nominees for the “Radio Woodie.” Lauded for championing artists before they achieve mainstream success, this student-run radio station represents the new music vanguard long since abandoned by traditional FM radio. The nominees were chosen based off accolades from CMJ College Radio acknowledgements, Princeton Review Nominations, on line votes and independent questionnaires completed by a cross-section of record labels. This year mtvU utilized RateMyProfessors.com to let students narrow down the nominees via online voting at the site.

The “2009 mtvU Woodie Awards,” the only awards to honor the music voted best by the college audience, will take place on November 18, 2009 at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City. This year’s performers will join an already incredible list of performers who have graced the Woodies stage in years past including Beck, Vampire Weekend, Santigold, Gym Class Heroes, Lykke Li, All Time Low and Imogen Heap.
